Thermal weapons were invented to be more powerful, destructive and deterrent compared to cold weapons. For example, the cannon, which is common on the battlefield, is a heavy assault weapon with a long history.
In the first half of the 14th century, artillery began to be manufactured in Europe to fire stone projectiles. At the end of the 16th century, cannonballs were made by putting pieces of metal in iron cylinders, which made them particularly lethal. At the end of the 17th century, howitzers were used in most countries in Europe.
A cannon usually consists of two main parts: the barrel and the frame. The barrel is used to give the projectile its initial velocity and direction of travel, while the end of the barrel is used to load the projectile. The frame is equipped with a recoil mechanism to ensure that the barrel is reset after firing the projectile.
In ancient times, cannons were very simple to operate when used in combat, basically a solid shell was shoved through the muzzle of the cannon into the chamber; then immediately afterward, the cannon's fuse was lit to ignite the gunpowder inside the chamber, thus shooting the shell out.
