Cricket originated in England and is popular in Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal and other countries and regions. It is a batting, fielding and catching based sport and is the predecessor of baseball and softball.
The two teams involved in the game have 11 players each, with one team playing offense and the other playing defense. Both teams are allowed to have a substitute.
Cricket bats must be no longer than 38 inches in overall length, must be made of all wood, and must be no wider than 4 1/4 inches at their widest part. The weight of the cricket ball must be no lighter than 5 1/2 ounces, or no heavier than 5 3/4 ounces.
