Most hamsters are found in North and South America, in grasslands, deserts, farmlands, and more. Hamsters tend to be close to humans, but do not enjoy the company of other hamsters, nor do they enjoy the company of other animals.

Hamsters feed mainly on plant seeds, but also eat insects, dead frogs and bird eggs to name a few. Hamsters don't like to eat things that are too wet, so it's best not to feed them fruits.

Daytime is basically rest time for hamsters, and they prefer to be active at night. Hamsters have poor eyesight, only enough to see six inches in front of them and see things in black and white.

Amazingly enough, temperature regulation helps determine the sex of baby hamsters. Keeping a mom hamster in a warm place during her pregnancy will result in more male babies being born, and being in a cooler temperature will result in more female babies being born.
