The griffin is a creature of legend. It has the body and sharp claws of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. Where and when it originated is not known, but it seems that the griffin has appeared in legends passed down by poets and old men long before there were written records.

But there is a real basis for its origin. In ancient times, there existed a huge eagle "Argentavis magnificens" with a wingspan of more than 20 feet, whose diet included lions.

When a giant eagle captured a lion, it grabbed the lion and flew through the sky, an amalgamation that, when viewed from a distance on the ground, looked like an eagle in the front and a lion in the back, which is where the legend of the griffin comes from.

Interestingly, one species of small griffin has been described as having the tail of a wolf, which just confirms the same origin: eagles capture wolves, fly through the sky, and are mistaken for a legendary creature.
