How to Draw a Kite Step by Step

Step 1 Draw the outline of this kite.

Let's start by observing this kite, it is diamond shaped and symmetrical, before drawing it you need to have a ruler ready.

Starting from a point, draw those two short edges first. They are the same length and form an angle close to a right angle.

Take a point on the angle bisector of that angle and from that point draw two lines connecting the ends of those two edges drawn earlier.

Step 2 Add two lines to this kite.

With the first step, we have drawn the outline of this kite, which is the most crucial step, and the next steps will definitely not be difficult!

Let's draw two straight lines to connect the four corners of that diamond shape as shown in the picture to get the skeleton of this kite.

Well, this super simple kite is almost done. At this point it looks like a shield.

Step 3 Add four lines to this kite.

Let's look to the smallest corner of this kite. Get close to it and take two points on one of the lines that make up the skeleton.

From one of these points, draw two separate lines to reach the two edges of this kite.

Do the same with the other point, and from it, draw two lines to reach the two edges of this kite.

Step 4 Draw the tail of this kite.

We've drawn the body of this kite, now we're going to add a tail to it, which will make it look even better in the air.

Let's look to that smallest corner and from it, draw a wavy line towards the bottom left.

Don't draw this line too long or too short, almost the same length as this kite.

Step 5 Add two triangles to this tail.

Starting with this step, we're going to add some triangles to the tail of this kite. You need to start by dividing its tail into four equal lengths, which means making three marks.

To the left of the top mark, we draw a small triangle that has each edge almost the same length.

Then to the right of that mark also draw a triangle of the same size. These two triangles combine to look like a bow.

Step 6 Add two more triangles to this tail.

Let's look to the second mark on the tail. Draw a triangle to the left of it as well.

Then draw a triangle to the right of that mark as well, thus getting a bow-like shape.

You'll notice that the two triangles drawn in this step have the same shape, and both are slightly smaller than the ones drawn in the previous step.

Step 7 Continue to add triangles to this tail.

On either side of the third mark, we also draw two triangles to get a bow-like shape.

These two triangles are slightly larger than the ones drawn in the previous step. Also, we should notice that the bowtie shape is nearly vertical.

Step 8 Add the last triangle to this tail.

At the end of the tail of this kite we draw a small triangle, thus completing the tail of this kite and also drawing the kite at the same time.

If you like, you can totally adjust the details of this kite, add a nice pattern, or change the triangles on the tail to another shapes, etc.

Step 9 Color it to get a cute kite.
