The colorful koi, which has always been a favorite among ornamental fish, is widely favored by the public and more and more people like to keep koi.
Koi originated in Japan. During the Edo period, when Japanese farmers were working in their rice paddies, they noticed that some of the carp they were raising were exceptionally brightly colored, so they selected them for improved breeding and thus obtained koi.
In countries such as China and Japan, koi is a symbol of wealth and good fortune. As an ornamental fish, its value is determined by its size, color, and appearance, and can be worth as much as a luxury car or even a mansion.
Koi is also a very long-lived animal, with a lifespan usually ranging from 20 to 50 years. The longest-lived Koi in the Guinness Book of World Records is 226 years old, spanning three centuries!
