The manatee mostly inhabits shallow seas and estuaries where vegetation is abundant, and a few in rivers. It evolved 60 million years ago from a four-legged mammal on land, and has a history of 25 million years of marine existence.
According to scientists, the manatee was originally a land "resident", is a distant relative of the elephant. Due to changes in nature, they were forced to go to the sea to make a living. After entering the ocean, it still maintains the habit of eating grass.
Did you know? Manatees have large lungs, the main source of buoyancy. They live in the water during the day and go out at night to forage for food. They have a keen sense of hearing and like to live in groups.
Two fun facts - manatees have a special ability to regulate their buoyancy by farting constantly. In addition, when manatees are out of the water, they cry incessantly!
For today's tutorial, let's learn how to draw a manatee. It appears to be in the water, poking its head out of the water, and is watching the movement around it. It's so much fun too!
Are you interested in this mammal that is huge, but lives in the water? Its front limbs have taken on the shape of fins, while its hind limbs have completely disappeared, a bit close to what seals and walruses look like.
