Originally from Tibet, China, the Pug was brought to Europe from China by Dutch sailors and traders. The dog is cheerful, active and playful, and is loyal to its owner. However, they often engage in brutal fights with each other.
The Pug is intelligent, has a good memory, loves cleanliness and loves to play with children. It doesn't need much outdoor activity, but is very protective of its owner and will bark hard if a stranger approaches.
Pugs are sensitive to high temperatures and should be kept in the shade with plenty of water during high temperatures, especially in the middle of summer.
The flat nose of pugs makes them prone to breathing difficulties. Therefore, care should be taken to control the amount of exercise and stop them as soon as you notice that they are short of breath or have any signs of breathing difficulties when playing sports with them.
