Raccoons live mainly in North America, and Toronto, Canada is one of the few cities with the largest raccoon population. Raccoons in the wild only live 2 to 3 years, while raccoons raised by humans can live up to 20 years.
Raccoons are actually nocturnal, meaning they do not sleep at night. However, due to limited food resources in certain areas, raccoons are sometimes seen during the day looking for food.
Raccoons are not picky eaters and eat whatever they find, including bugs and plants. They also catch a lot of food from the water, such as crayfish and frogs. Also they don't mind eating fruit.
Raccoons are said to have a high IQ among mammals, higher than that of cats but lower than that of monkeys. They can open cans with their front paws.
