Carps are pretty big fish. Some of them can grow as long as your arm or even longer! They're not the biggest fish in the water, but they're definitely not small.
Carps can be different colors. Some are golden, like the color of the sun, while others are brown or gray. They blend in well with the water and the bottom of the river or lake.
Carps have a wide mouth with lots of tiny teeth. They use these teeth to eat all sorts of things from plants to small insects. Like many fish, carps have scales on their bodies. These scales are like little, shiny armor pieces that protect them while they swim around.
Carps are great swimmers. They like to hang out at the bottom of the water and swim around slowly. They're not the fastest fish, but they're strong and can swim against the current.
When carps swim, they sometimes make bubbles. These bubbles are actually air that comes out of their gills. Gills are like special windows on their bodies that let them breathe underwater.
Did you know some carps can jump out of the water? It's true! They can leap high into the air, which is really fun to watch. A step by step tutorial to learn how to draw a realistic carp, try it out!
