Far away in the Arctic ice fields lives a cute, white, chubby animal called the polar bear. It is the largest carnivore on land, eating seals, fish, and sometimes berries and plant roots.
Baby polar bears are usually twins. When they are three or four months old, they have to crawl out of their dens and learn to hunt and swim after their mothers. Dexterous running, jumping and standing are skills that baby polar bears learn.
In case you didn't know, polar bear fur is actually transparent. It looks white, sometimes with a yellowish color, because of the refraction of sunlight. The white fur helps polar bears camouflage and hide better, plus it is waterproof and keeps out the cold.
Polar bears are such good swimmers that they were once thought to be marine animals. Polar bears spend most of their lives sleeping, lying down to rest, or on the lookout for prey, spending the rest of their time walking on land or ice or swimming in the ocean.
For today's drawing tutorial, I'm sure you've already seen that, yes, we're going to learn how to draw a polar bear that's swimming. Isn't there a little bit of joy in watching a large-bodied polar bear swimming in the water?
