Just like war and love, pirates and treasure stories are timeless themes that last forever! And the thrilling sea adventures will fulfill almost all of a child's fantasies of unknown voyages and finding treasure.

It is said that the pirates would hide the plundered treasure on one of the islands and draw a treasure map with detailed records of the route to and from the island, the road conditions, the landforms, the terrain and so on. Along the way there are treacherous mountains, dense jungles and ferocious monsters!

Today in our drawing tutorial, we are going to learn how to draw a treasure map. The ultimate treasure is hidden in the place marked with an "X" and you will have to go through a lot of obstacles to get it.

INSTRUCTIONS:

How to Draw a Treasure Map Step by Step

Step 1 Draw the top edge of this treasure map.

We will start by drawing the outline of this treasure map. This treasure map is roughly rectangular.

We'll start by drawing a line from the bottom left to the top right, leaving a few small gaps.

At each gap, we draw a downward facing corner. This completes one edge of this treasure map.

Step 2 Draw the left edge of this treasure map.

Let's look to the left end of the line we just drew and draw a wavy line from it toward the bottom right.

We're going to leave a couple of small gaps in this line as well, and then add a notch at each one.

This is an unfolding treasure map, you don't need to aim for precision, just relax and be bold.

Step 3 Draw the bottom edge of this treasure map.

Let's look to the bottom of that wavy line this time. Draw a line from it toward the top right.

Leave a gap roughly in the middle of that line. Of course, you can leave a gap in another location, or several gaps.

Draw a crack at that gap, as if this treasure map has been around for a long time.

Step 4 Draw the right edge of this treasure map.

Next, let's try to draw that edge opposite that wavy line.

Draw three connected lines to get the fourth edge of this treasure map.

This way, we have completed the outline of this treasure map. That was easy, wasn't it?

Step 5 Add lines along the edges.

On this treasure map, along the edges already drawn, we draw a slightly smaller outline of the treasure map.

You need to notice that these lines are not going through those cracks, that is, don't draw them at those gaps.

Okay, so we have drawn the edges of this treasure map, next we can add the parts we are more interested in!

Step 6 Draw the terrain on this map.

Instead of rushing to draw mountains and forests, etc., we first draw the outline of the land/sea of this treasure map.

Referring to the picture above, we draw the outline of the sea and at the same time we get the outline of the land.

Then towards the depths of the land, we draw a meandering river. You can try drawing more branches of the river.

Step 7 Draw the path to find the treasure.

In this step, we are going to draw the route to find the treasure and mark the exact location of the treasure.

Draw a wavy dashed line from one side of this treasure map towards the other. You can decide any way you want to go with this line.

At the right end of the dashed line, we draw an "X" to mark the exact location of the treasure.

Step 8 Add forests and mountains to this map.

On land, we draw some rock-like shapes to represent the mountains on the way to the treasure hunt.

Then we draw some mushroom-like shapes to represent the forests on the land.

You can also add more landforms that you find fun, or even draw a shipwreck in the ocean location.

Step 9 Simply color this treasure map.

We've drawn this fun treasure map, and the next step is the most anticipated one of coloring it.

What colors are the sea, the land, the forest, and the mountains? Also, we have to add color to the edges of this treasure map.
