Big Ben is a very famous clock tower in London, England. It's actually part of a bigger building called the Elizabeth Tower, which is at the end of the Houses of Parliament.
Big Ben is actually the name of the big bell inside the tower, but people started calling the whole tower Big Ben because it's so special and big. The tower was renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's 60 years as queen.
Big Ben is super tall! It's 315 feet high, which is almost as long as a football field standing up. Imagine stacking about 30 grown-ups on top of each other—that's how high the clock faces are!
The tower is made of bricks and limestone, which gives it a beautiful, smooth look. It has four big clock faces, one on each side, so you can see the time no matter where you stand around it. Each clock face is as wide as a school bus is long.
Big Ben uses a special force called gravity to work. There are heavy weights inside the clock, and they pull down to make the clock's hands move and the bell ring.
Big Ben is a symbol of London and the United Kingdom. It has been telling time since 1859, and its bell rings every hour to remind people of the time. Today I have a tutorial on how to draw Big Ben, if you are interested, follow the step by step instructions and try it out!
