Big Ben, also known as the Elizabeth Tower, formerly known as the Clock Tower, is one of the world's most famous Gothic buildings located on the banks of the River Thames in London, England, and is one of London's landmarks.
Big Ben was completed on April 10, 1858 and is the largest clock in the United Kingdom. The tower is 320 feet high and the minute hand is 14 feet long.
The clock face of Big Ben glows when the British Parliament is in session and the clock chimes every hour. Every year, the clock is stopped for parts repair and tuning during the summer and winter time changeover.
In the UK, people celebrate Big Ben as the most important place to celebrate the New Year, and its chimes are broadcast on televisions and radios to welcome the start of a new year.
