Chinese New Year, also called the Spring Festival, is a very special holiday in China. It's like a big celebration to welcome a new year and say goodbye to the old one.
During Chinese New Year, people decorate their homes with red lanterns and red paper cuttings. Red is a very lucky color in China, and it makes everything look bright and happy.
On New Year's Eve, families get together to have a big dinner. They eat delicious food like dumplings, which look like little money bags and bring good luck. After dinner, they watch a special show on TV and stay up late to welcome the new year.
In the morning, kids wake up to find red envelopes with money inside. These are gifts from their parents and grandparents, and they bring good fortune for the new year.
People also set off fireworks and firecrackers to scare away bad luck and make lots of noise. The most famous part is the dragon dance and lion dance, where people dress up in colorful costumes and dance in the streets.
