Peas are native to the Mediterranean basin and its eastern coast, southwestern Asia and northeastern Africa. The main producing countries today are China, India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Russia.
Peas can withstand the freezing cold of frosty days and can be planted and grown earlier than other legumes.
Throughout the Middle Ages, peas were dried so that they could be stored almost indefinitely. It was when people needed nourishment and energy that they were brought out to make porridge.
If you've read Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Princess and the Pea, you'll remember it well - the story is about the real princess who slept on layers of mattresses and plush cushions, and didn't get a good night's sleep because of a pea at the bottom of the mattresses.
For today's drawing tutorial, we are going to learn to draw a pea pod. It looks like a shell that has birthed pearls, and the peas seem to glow in the pod!
